THE MONTESSORI METHOD

The Montessori Method is designed to allow the child to learn through his own initiative and curiosity at his own pace, within a cooperative and nurturing atmosphere. The Montessori Method is designed to allow the child to learn through his own initiative and curiosity at his own pace, within a cooperative and nurturing atmosphere. Children are free to move about the room to select learning activities that interest them. Freedom within limits helps the child develop decision-making abilities while in a safe and secure environment. Children are free to concentrate on an activity without interruption. The method aims to develop independence, self-motivation, concentration, a sense of responsibility and confidence in one’s own abilities.
THE MONTESSORI CLASSROOM

The Montessori classroom is a carefully prepared environment designed to facilitate the development of the children’s independence and a sense of personal empowerment. It consists of classroom equipment scaled to child-size, specially designed learning materials unique to Montessori classrooms, and a teacher who serves as a helper, guide and trained observer. The classroom consists of open shelves with bright, attractive materials that stimulate hands-on learning. The room invites activity and movement and fosters independence by the open availability and self-correcting aspects of the materials.
ROLE OF A TEACHER

She is, first of all, a very keen observer of the individual interests and the needs of each child and her daily work proceeds from her observations rather than from a prepared curriculum. She demonstrates the correct use of materials as they are individually chosen by the children.
BEHAVIOUR OF THE CHILD

There is always a busy hum of activity in a Montessori classroom because the use of the materials involves many motions — walking, carrying, pouring, speaking and particularly the constant use of the hands. All Activity, however, is guided by a respect for the teacher, a respect for the work of others and a respect for the materials themselves.
NATURE STUDY

One of the central tenants of the Montessori philosophy is the connection with the natural world. Children should have the daily opportunity to experience the outdoors with structure and purpose. Children must be placed a great emphasis on nature and nature education. We at Blossom Tots feel that the outdoor environment should be an extension of the classroom.
Language

Consider the wonder of language acquisition. The Montessori curriculum introduces the children to the phonetic sounds of letters Spontaneous reading and grammar activities. In the first plane of development (0–6), the Montessori language materials provide experiences to develop the use of a writing instrument and the basic skills of reading a written language.
Maths

In this area, materials are provided to show such basic concepts as numeration, place value, addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication. For numeration, there is a set of ten rods, with segments colored red and blue and “spindle boxes”, which consist of placing sets of objects in groups, 1–10, into separate compartments. For learning the numeral symbols, there is a set of sandpaper numerals, 1–9. For learning addition, subtraction, and place value, materials provide a decimal representation of 1, 10, 100, etc., in various shapes made of beads, plastic, or wood.
Experience

We have a qualified team of teachers with immense experience. Our work as teachers does not consist in teaching, but in helping the infant mind in its work of development.
SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

We create social awareness among the infants “It is interesting to see how little by little, these children become aware of forming a community which behaves as such. Once they have reached this level, the children no longer act thoughtlessly, but put the group first and try to succeed for its benefit.
CREATIVITY

In Montessori, we view creativity in the broadest sense. The child possesses tremendous creativity, which is directed towards becoming a ‘developed individual, endowed with a sensitive soul, an eye that sees and a hand that obeys’.
